Obituary of Augustus James Dominie
IN THE CARE OF

South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium

Augustus James Dominie, age 91, of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Augustus (Gus) James Dominie, born on December 6, 1933 in Harbour Le Cou, Newfoundland. Gus passed away peacefully at the age of 91 with many family members by his side, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, on February 19, 2025.

Gus will be lovingly remembered by his surviving sons; Wayne and Michael (Annette), along with grandchildren; Russell (Ashley), Craig (Adelle), Keisha, Madison (Dean) and Mason. And also great-grandchildren; Jack and Nora. Gus is also survived by his brothers; Cecil (Ann) and Winston (Mabel) and his sisters; Judy (Ervin) and Shirley.

Gus was predeceased by his parents; William and Jemima. Also his loving wife of 62 years; Mabel, daughter, Colleen and daughter-in-law, Dianne. Along with his brothers and sister; Reginald, Edgar, Walter, Gerald and Maude.

Gus left home at 16 years old to seek his fortune, and eventually landed in Alberta. He found the love of his life, Mabel and got married in November 1959. Gus had started cutting hair while working on the freighters in Eastern Canada and eventually became a successful hairdresser in Calgary. He loved to fish when they went on vacation. Gus loved volunteering, he was a member of the Bowness Lions Club, for many years, while acting as the greeter at the church in Strathmore and helping out at the curling club. He was also an avid woodworker and built much of the furniture in our house growing up.

Most of all he loved his family around him and always had a practical joke in the works. Gus will be missed by all the people he touched during his journey.

Many thanks to the staff at the Peter Lougheed Center for their compassion and care.
