It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Aune Anderson, age 89, of Calgary, AB, on June 18, 2025, with family at her bed-side.
Aune was born on July 29, 1935 in Barrhead, AB to Vilho and Aili Heijari. After finishing school, she worked in Edmonton as a telephone operator as well as a bank teller. She met her husband, Edward in 1957 and they shared 68 years of marriage together. Early in their marriage, they moved back to Edward’s hometown of Gordondale, AB and lived on a farm raising five children and eventually moved to Calgary in 2017.
Aune maintained a close relationship with her siblings (Evelyn, Hazel, Melvin and Doris), nurturing their Finnish connection.
Aune endured numerous debilitating health issues but rarely complained. She met those challenges with a sense of humor and inner strength. Her motto was “you gotta laugh or you cry”. She had many hilarious sayings, often requiring an explanation, which made them even funnier.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and the trips she was able to take. She also enjoyed gardening, old black & white movies, and especially baking. There was always dessert on the menu even if the meal was not yet planned.
She leaves behind her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Aune was pre-deceased by her son (Perry), granddaughter (Mackenzie), great-granddaughter (Asia) and her sisters (Evelyn and Hazel).
A Celebration of Life to be held at a later date, followed by interment at the Gordondale Cemetery in Gordondale, AB.
