Austin was born on May 18, 1991 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital to his loving parents Brent Campbell and Donna Fuller. After a long labour over a stormy May long weekend, Austin brought the sun and rainbows with him into the world and continued to spend the rest of his time with us lighting up the lives of others.
A fourth-generation Albertan, Austin attended grades 1-12 in Calgary, where he made several lifelong friends and graduated from William Aberhart High School in 2009. He gravitated towards leadership and community from a young age, serving as student council president in junior high and on his high school debate team. Austin’s passion for politics and drive to make a difference in the world inspired him to major in International Relations with a minor in Anthropology at the University of Calgary, where he graduated in 2018.
His university years brought him many new adventures, including volunteering with Grow Calgary, working for the event group BassBus (known for its colourful intergalactic school bus), and interning at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he hoped to meet Senator Bernie Sanders. While they never got to meet, Austin proudly owned a signed photo. He didn’t pursue a career in politics, but always he maintained a steadfast desire to change the world and bring people together.
Austin also had a passion for travel and made friends all over the globe. He was fortunate to enjoy Europe, Cuba, and Hawaii with his dad, visit Vegas and Mexico with his mom, and explore more of Europe, Southeast Asia, and the South Pacific Islands with friends. His love of exploration and the outdoors drew him to take up tree planting in 2020, where he enjoyed several summers and made many friends.
Austin will be remembered for his generous spirit, eclectic wardrobe, and skills with a lightsaber. He loved karaoke, ice cream, crystals, river rafting, and pondering the nature of the universe. Austin had a unique ability to connect with anyone and never hesitated to help a friend in need. He showered people with love with the goal of bringing them together and making them smile. We hope every person whose life he touched can continue to do that in his memory.
Austin is survived by his parents, his sister Phoebe Fuller, his aunt Pat (Jim) Jorawsky, uncle Brian (Lana) Campbell, uncle Bruce Campbell, cousins Dawn Jorawsky, Dusty (Kim) Jorawsky, Conor Campbell, and Noah Campbell, and many, many friends.
