Barry had a distinguished career in aviation, beginning with Mobile Oil, Pacific Petroleum, Dome Petroleum, and Amoco, before founding his own company, Canadian Commercial Aircraft Overhaul (CanComAir). Aviation was not just his profession but a lifelong passion.
Beyond his career, Barry lived a full life. Barry and his beloved wife Jeanne were together for 58 years and married for 53, raising their beautiful family in the country and building a life grounded in love and hard work. He loved classic Corvettes and the time spent around them—working on them, talking about them, and appreciating what they represented. He also loved Arabian horses and flying his Cessna plane, always finding peace in the skies. Music was woven through his life as well; he loved 50’s and 60’s rock and roll and played guitar for as long as anyone can remember, often filling the home with music.
Barry was predeceased by his brother Jerry Pankiw in 2025, his mother Mary in 2015, and his father Nick in 1984.
Barry is survived by his loving wife Jeanne; his son Marcus; his daughters Amanda (Chris) and Tammy (Carlos); and his cherished grandsons Weston, Asher, Hudson, Caius, and Vale. He is also survived by his brother Rob (Beatta); his nephew and godson Sean; his sisters in law Sharon Pankiw, Rita Pankiw, Judy Ker, Carol Deluca, and Beverly Jeske (Rick); and all his beloved nieces and nephews.
Barry was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the music he played, and the family he cherished. He will be remembered always.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
