Our lovely mother, Beatrice May McClinton née Paton passed away on September 21, 2016 at the age of 95 years. Bea was the third of four daughters born to William Sadler Paton and Janet (Robertson) Paton on a farm near Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan. After finishing high school, she moved to Regina to complete a secretarial course and then to be employed by the PFRA. She married Harold McClinton in 1947 in Regina and they welcomed 4 children into their lives. This shy girl from the prairies became fearless as she followed Harold from Regina to Sherwood Park, AB, then to Norman Wells, NWT, finally retiring in Naramata, BC. Bea embraced Naramata becoming involved in the Naramata Church and making many friends while sewing and quilting for church bazaars, country dancing, bowling in Penticton and canning and making jam from all the produce Harold would bring in from the garden. Summers were full of visits from children and grandchildren and in the winters she and Harold travelled. Bea and Harold moved to Calgary in 2012 to be closer to family. At the time of her passing, she resided in the Scenic Acres Retirement Home. She loved her children and grandchildren and was proud of them all. Hers was a respectful and constant love and we will miss her laughter and quiet presence in our lives.
Beatrice is survived by her sister Ruth Gowans of White Rock, BC. Beatrice is also survived by son James McClinton, his wife Marni and their sons Robert, Kyle (Brittney) and Alexander (Talia) of Sherwood Park, AB; daughter Judith Bischoff, her husband Charles, her children Jennifer Davies (Brent Doell), and grandchild Samuel Doell; James Davies (Lisa Tyler and her son Tristen Wilson) of Calgary and Charles' son Michael (Jody) Bischoff of Saskatoon; son, Richard McClinton, his wife Ginny and their children Katie and Liam McClinton of Winnipeg; daughter Susan McKenna, her husband Chris Williams, her children Daniel and Claire McKenna and Chris' children Ashley (Kelly), Easha, Kristy (Trevor), Taylor (Tracey) of Vancouver Island as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by Shaun McKenna and Doug Davies. Beatrice was predeceased by Harold in December 2012, her sisters and brothers-in-law Iva and Joe Dorey, Hilda and Merv Buckingham and Bill Gowans and Harold's siblings J.D. (Dorothy) McClinton, Greg (Yvonne) McClinton, Margaret (Randolph) Quigley, their son Tom and grandson, Doug; Bill McClinton, Mabel McClinton, Olive (Les) Hill, and Ed (Kathy) McClinton. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in the SL4D unit of Scenic Acres for their attentiveness and caring attitudes in the days preceding Bea's death. After a private funeral service in Calgary, Beatrice will be buried in Regina Memorial Gardens next to Harold her loving husband of 65 years.
