Blair James “BJ” Sailer was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, on August 11th, 1967 to Alf and Dorothy Sailer (now Sailer-Hammett). BJ spent his early years in Medicine Hat until his family moved to Lethbridge. There he finished the rest of his education, and began his studies at the University of Lethbridge where he completed his degree in philosophy. During these years he met Denise Willms, whom he married on November 13, 1993. They welcomed their son Darian on February 23rd, 1994. The family then moved to Calgary, and welcomed their daughter Cassidy on August 23rd, 1996. BJ started a career in IT, working at Northwest Digital and later Telus, where he stayed many years, eventually becoming a business analyst. BJ always had a passion for working with computers, and this was evident outside of his career as well. His natural care for others also led him to be involved with causes that were important to him, such as the Calgary Ostomy Society. After a battle with cancer that lasted for over a year, BJ passed away with family at his side at Rosedale Hospice on July 3, 2016. He was pre-deceased by his wife Denise in 2010, and father Alf in 1992. BJ leaves to mourn his two adult children, Darian and Cassidy, his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Lionel, his father and mother in-law, Ed and Ruth Willms, his brother and sister in-law, Michael and Michelle Willms, his nephews, Sam, Jack, and Ben Willms, and his niece Abigail, in addition to numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, in-law relatives, and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Those who so desire may make donations in memory of BJ to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, http://www.crohnsandcolitis.ca, Calgary Ostomy Society (A member of the Ostomy Canada Society) https://www.ostomycanada.ca/donations/, or Rosedale Hospice, https://hospicecalgary.thankyou4caring.org/.
