Robert Denzil Moore passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Lydia, son Lance (Lisa), daughter T.C. (Ron), step-son Mark (Lynne), his sister Doreen (Eric) and grandchildren Sydney, Stephen, Scott and Abigail. He was predeceased by his son Lorne and is lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends. Bob was born at home in Lomond, Alberta to Christina and Bob Moore on June 1, 1933. He spent his childhood in Calgary playing sports – mostly hockey – and raising pigeons. After earning his masters ticket for sheet metal he went to work on the Alaska pipeline. Returning to Calgary, he joined the Calgary Fire Department and retired after thirty years of service. When not working, he golfed, hunted and fished. On one of his summer fishing trips to Vancouver Island he met his cherished wife Lydia and her son Mark. Bob coached minor hockey for twenty-five years. He scouted for the Calgary Wranglers and the Billings Bighorns. He ran a summer hockey school. Some of his graduates went on to careers in the NHL. In 1981 he coached the SAIT Trojans to win the National Championship. Many members of the team attended their 2013 induction into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame. Bob and Lydia spent twenty years as snowbirds in Needles, California, a town with a great golf course to hone Bob’s game for the Calgary summer season. He played on the Alberta Seniors Team. They won the National Seniors Golf Championship in 1993. He was club champion in many Calgary clubs, most recently at Willow Park Golf and Country Club. China was the only place Bob and Lydia traveled where Bob didn’t know someone. In 1982, they took the SAIT Trojans to play hockey in Beijing. What an experience! Bob touched so many lives. Those who knew him have their own special memories to keep. He will be missed so much, especially by his faithful hunting partner, “Casey”, their Brittany spaniel. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2 or to the Alberta Kidney Foundation Southern Alberta Branch 6007 - 1A Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2H 0G5 or to a charity of one’s choice.
