“My best friend and companion of 50 years passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022. She will live on in the hearts of her children, Rachel (Michael) and Ryan (Parinaz) and her grandchildren, Sebastian and Quinn Clowes. We are devastated. She is the kindest and most gentle person I have ever known.” - Don Monty
Carol was born in Montreal, QC, on August 23rd, 1954 to Irene (Hamel) and Victor Findlay. She grew up in Dorval, QC with her parents and younger sister, Joan. Carol was an avid skier and synchronized swimmer growing up. She met her future husband and best friend, Don Monty, when she was 17 and attending cégep. She attended Concordia University in Montreal before moving to Calgary.
Carol moved to Calgary in the spring of 1977 following Don, who had settled there after a failed cross-country ski trip to Vancouver. They had numerous adventures in their stained glass window VW van before eventually deciding to start a family. Carol and Don were married on October 6th, 1979 and welcomed Rachel on May 25th, 1982 and Ryan on May 23rd, 1985.
Family was incredibly important to Carol. After the untimely passing of her beloved sister Joan in 2008, Carol treasured her time visiting with her nieces Sarah (David) and Meaghan (Mark), nephew Kevin (Lea), and brother-in-law Paul (Josée) who all currently reside in the Ottawa and Montreal area. She is survived by her centenarian mother, Irene, who she spoke with every day on the phone.
Carol had a plethora of jobs over the years. While her career was not her passion, she cherished the friendships she developed throughout her working life, many of which she still has to this day. Unequivocally her favourite position was providing daycare for her two grandchildren, Quinn and Sebastian.
Carol had a passion for animals, especially dogs. Her love of dogs began with her adored childhood dachshund, Trixie, and continued with Duffer, Mac, and Spur in Calgary. She often spoke of reuniting with her favourite dog, Mac, at the rainbow bridge.
Most of all, Carol relished her time with her children and grandchildren, all of whom, without a doubt, would say she was the best mom and grandma they could ever ask for. She will be dearly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life for Carol will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 4th St NW, Calgary), on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Those who would like to join the service virtually, may do so by clicking the webcast link in the service information section below.
