Charles Warren Hunt III, age 93, of Calgary, Alberta died peacefully on August 19, 2018. He was born on December 15, 1924 to Lucile Johns Hunt and Charles Warren Hunt Jr. in San Francisco, CA. He married Patricia McCallum of Deer Creek, Saskatchewan on July 6, 1950. They had four children, Lucile Hunt Edwards, Malcolm Ian Hunt, Mary Melinda Hunt and Sky Hunt.
Warren graduated from California Institute of Technology in 1945 and completed Stanford University’s field geology summer program in 1946. He began work as a field geologist in the San Joaquin Valley for Standard Oil of California. He emigrated to Alberta in 1948 where he focused on petroleum and mineral exploration for seventy years.
Warren was a longtime member of the Glencoe Club where he was an avid squash player until he was disabled from a skiing accident in 1973. He was also a member of the Calgary Polo Club where he played up until his accident. He then refereed the games alongside his wife Patty who was score and timekeeper for many years.
Warren is survived by his younger brother Henry Johns Hunt of Arizona, with whom he drove from California to “check out” the new Alaskan highway following WWII. In addition to his four children he is survived by five grandchildren, Martha Edwards, Fred Edwards, Emily Hunt Olfson, Rachel Hunt Olfson and Lucy Hunt and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church Calgary, (3602 8 St SW), on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, NY.
