Christian (Chris) Mitchell

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Chris Mitchell on Jan 15, 2012. She was the loving and wise mother of William Nakhid, Daphne Nakhid and wife of Naresh Nakhid, youngest daughter of Diana Mitchell and the late George Mitchell, sister to Elizabeth (Pascal Ertle), Jane (Brent Foxall) and Daphne (Bill MacGregor) Mitchell and loving aunt and niece to many. Chris grew up in Halifax and, with her family, led a very active lifestyle including skiing, horseback riding and camping. The nurturing that Chris received from her family while growing up shaped her into a wonderful mother, wife, and human being. Chris' love of the outdoors, nature and physical activity was only surpassed by the love and devotion she had for raising and caring for her family. She was an excellent cook, creating vegetarian and vegan meals for family and friends. She had a positive outlook on life, and touched the lives of everyone that she came into contact with. When her children were young she volunteered at Metro Mother's Network in Toronto - a program focused on helping single mothers. She spent many hours of her free time volunteering at various organizations. She felt it was important to help others less fortunate than herself.A dedicated teacher, Chris shared her kindness, caring, and creativity with students and family alike, leaving many lasting impressions on all those she came into contact with. Chris was a loyal friend, and a gentle soul with an artistic side. Her family will treasure the pottery that Chris created and often gave as gifts.We will miss Chris' generous spirit, independent mind and unconditional love. We feel privileged to have known Chris and to have been a part of her life.
