It is with profound sadness the family of Christopher Mark Hunter announces his passing on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at his home in Calgary, AB. Mark was born in Hamilton, Ontario on July 5, 1963. His family moved to Manitoba shortly after his birth. In 1968, Mark, his mother, brother and sister relocated to Saskatoon. While in Saskatoon, Mark attended Caroline Robbins and Prince Philip elementary schools, and Walter Murray Collegiate. Following high school, Mark completed his Masters of Architecture at Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1991. Mark was employed with GEC Architecture in Calgary, AB until the time of his death. Mark was a creative and talented architect and his design work with GEC Architecture included many of Calgary’s and Southern Alberta’s best known buildings. Mark will be remembered by his clients and colleagues for his compassion, his enthusiasm, his contrarian and insightful viewpoints and a creative drive that was undiminished even by illness. Mark was an awesome guy. He was driven to do his best at everything he did including work, golf, curling, baseball and fishing. Mark was known for his sharp wit and intelligent sense of humour. He was also an extremely caring, gentle man, dedicated to the wellbeing of his family and friends who were of ultimate importance to him. Mark approached his illness as he did everything in life, with honesty, humility and tenacity. Mark is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Melissa Olin, his father Stewart Hunter, stepfather Joseph (Donna) Yates, stepmother Birgith Hunter, his brother Scott (Sheri) Hunter, sister Lora (Jim) Peel, brother Kenneth Hunter, brother Kevin (Meera) Hunter, sister Karen Dawn (Luc) Lewandoski, Cal (Davina) Yates, Kim Yates, Jay (Jodi) Yates, Jill (Mel) Sherret as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mark was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Yates, in November 2003, as well as his grandparents Grace and Melville Watson, Anne and Melvyn Hunter, Helen and Elmer Yates, and Anita Watson. A celebration of Mark’s life was held in the North Building of the Telus Convention Centre, located at 120 – 9 Avenue SE in Calgary, AB on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 6:00p.m. We rejoice in Mark’s unique perspective on life (and fashion) and invite you to express your inner Mark at the service. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers directly to Colon Cancer Research via Oliver Bathe (contact Melissa for details), Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Society of Canada (HBOC), Epilepsy Canada, or Banff Centre.
