Cornelia (Truus) Banner, wife of Charles N. Banner of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary on Sunday, July 29, 2012. Cornelia is survived by her husband Charles N. Banner, her son Robert Edward Banner, her daughter Caroline N. Banner, and her son-in-law David G. Simpson, all of Calgary. Cornelia is also survived by two brothers: Cor Jansen of Oakville, Ontario and Ben Jansen of Driebergen-Rijsenburg, The Netherlands. She was pre-deceased by a brother Theo Jansen, and a sister, Riek Jansen, both of The Netherlands. Truus was born Cornelia Geertruida Jansen. She grew up in Utrecht, The Netherlands, often under difficult circumstances, especially during the Second World War. In The Netherlands, she became a pharmacy assistant. After immigrating to Canada in 1960, she earned a B.A. degree in psychology at Laurentian University and a M.Ed. degree in counseling psychology at the University of Calgary. She worked as a psychologist in Edmonton until her retirement in 1998. At the request of her family, there will be no Funeral Service, but if friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Southern Alberta Myeloma Patient Society (http://www.southernalbertamyeloma.org).
