Darlene Elizabeth Rose McLaughlin

March 22, 1961 – July 30, 2025
Obituary of Darlene Elizabeth Rose McLaughlin
IN THE CARE OF

South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium

As we grieve the loss, we remember Darlene Elizabeth Rose McLaughlin, who left us peacefully on July 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend to many, Darlene leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and service to her community.

Born and raised in Châteauguay, Quebec, Darlene discovered her passion for figure skating at an early age. What began on a local rink blossomed into a lifelong involvement with the sport, eventually leading her to become a respected judge with Skate Canada. Her keen eye, integrity, and love for the sport left a lasting impact on athletes and officials across the country.

After moving to Calgary, Alberta, with her beloved husband, Gary, and their son Mark, Darlene built a career spanning many years in the energy and legal sectors. Known for her intelligence, professionalism, and warmth, she was admired by colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of her professional life, Darlene was a tireless volunteer and passionate advocate for youth sports. She dedicated over 30 years of service to Little League, taking on many roles, including serving on the boards of Little League International, Little League Alberta, and the Alberta Amateur Baseball Council. She was honored with the Sportsperson of the Year award from the Calgary Booster Club in 2020 and received the prestigious Marthe Dubroy Award in 2024. Her commitment, energy, and generous spirit made her a cornerstone in both the baseball and figure skating communities.

In recognition of her lasting contributions, a moment of silence will be observed in her honor at the commencement of Canada’s Game 1 of the 2025 Little League World Series on August 15, 2025, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary, her son Mark, daughter-in-law Debbie, and her three adored grandchildren: Cole, Myles, and Georgia. She also leaves behind her brothers David and Donny, her sister Donna, and many dear friends, teammates, fellow volunteers, and colleagues who will miss her deeply. Darlene was predeceased by her loving parents, Donald and Catherine.

Darlene touched many lives with her warmth, passion, and unwavering dedication to the people and causes she loved. Her absence leaves a profound void, but her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a local youth sports organization of your choice.
