Dennis was born in Calgary, on August 13, 1946, to Edna and Albert Hobbs of Carstairs, Alberta. He was raised in Carstairs in a loving family, alongside two sisters and two brothers. As a young adult he moved to Calgary and attended SAIT, achieving a diploma in Electronics in 1968. While attending school, Dennis worked at the Alberta Motor Association downtown branch where he would meet his future wife, Dianne. In 1970 the two would marry and would share the next 46 years as husband and wife. Their union was blessed with three loving children, Darcy, Kelly and Geoffrey. Edmonton would be their home for over ten years until 1981 when they returned to Calgary to settle once again.
Dennis was fortunate to have secured employment with Alberta Government Telephones, later to become TELUS, and during his 35 years with the company, rose to the position of Director of Quality Assurance. Following his retirement from TELUS, he secured a position with the National Energy Board in Calgary and continued to work for yet another five years until such time as he decided to enjoy the freedom that retirement had to offer.
Dennis remained very active, enjoying such pursuits as traveling, building and construction projects around the home, gardening, computer programing projects, morning sudoku or trivia puzzles, and family time with his wife, children, and very energetic grandchildren. Affectionately known as Papa Glue to his family, Dennis was truly a master with his glue gun and glue sticks...if something was broken Dennis could fix it or at least try with a little bit of patience and a whole lot of glue. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was always willing to help others. His smile was unforgettable.
He leaves to mourn his loss: his son Darcy (Keira) and grandchildren Natalie and Duncan, his daughter Kelly (Sean) and grandsons Gavin and Braeden, his sister Eleanor (Bob), his brothers Stanley (Audrey), Dale (Jo), his close friend Alida and her daughter Kelly, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Dennis was predeceased by his wife Dianne, his son Geoffrey, his parents, and his sister Norma.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
