She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David, and two children: Christopher (Katrina) and Megan, her niece Charleen, all in Calgary; her nephew Paul in Australia, as well as numerous relatives in Australia, U.S. and Canada.
The only child of Howen and Olive Jones (Jackson), Diana’s mother passed away when she was 5 years old and her father when she was 10 years old. Cared for by her aunts, her stepmother, and as a convent boarder, Diana developed a strong independent streak, but also a deep sense of care and compassion for others.
Diana ventured from Australia to London, England at 16 years old, working in advertising in London, New York City, and Toronto. In Calgary, she worked for CKXL Radio and CHCT TV, and later in personnel and employment placement when she re-entered the work force after being a full time mother.
Diana met David in 1958 through The Buskins, a Calgary amateur theatre group. Their paths crossed again in London, England, and also in Sydney, Australia, before Diana returned to Calgary and married David in 1962.
In retirement, Diana and David enjoyed many trips across the world. Their annual winter visits to Australia enabled Diana to make new friends and re-establish contact with friends and relatives. These connections formed some of her most cherished experiences as she and David travelled throughout Australia.
Diana’s door was always open to visitors, and hospitality was extended to many individuals, particularly after she heard their Australian accent. Throughout her life, numerous strangers became long-lasting friends.
As her health needs became more complicated, Diana received excellent help through homecare arranged by AHS and the staff of United Active Living Garrison Green. Their support and kindness to her was much appreciated.
There will be no service. As a lover of music and theatre, Diana enjoyed performances wherever she travelled. Charitable donations in her memory can be made to any of Calgary’s fine theatre groups.
