We are so very sorry to hear about Hoop.  You can't help but smile when you think of some of the crazy things that he did.  Always had such a great time camping with you guys.  He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of serving with Don in Calgary and Germany. He had a tremendous sense of humour and was a great soldier. My deepest sympathies to the |Hoop family.

The Ring Family:
I remember Don in Germany in 1967 when he was the driver of the squadron Armoured Recovery Vehicle. He'd been chosen for the job because he was allegedly an excellent driver. Character that he was, Trooper Don would wear his beret as a flat hat when driving which aggravated the sergeant major but which was overlooked because he was so very good at what he did. Although I didn't know Don personally, I did know that he'd earned the respect and friendship of those who served with him.

I was fortunate enough to have Uncle Don and Aunt Arlie spend some time with us here in Red Deer a couple of years ago and what I remembered the most about Uncle Don is that he had not changed a bit, even though I hadn't seen him for many many years. ....Well, we lost a family member this past week. Uncle Don, you will be missed by all of us. From Canada to Germany and back again you were always our Uncle Don. Yes the chuckle and that "brighter side of life"  that you always brought with you will be missed but never forgotten. To Auntie Arlie, Kathy, Donald and Todd, i feel your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I have many fond memories of Donnie back in the days in Germany and Wainright, when I was a troop leader.  He was a great character and a natural leader.

I still remember all the good times we had at hockey and the weekends of camping those are some of my best memories of all of us. It was with heavy heart I learned of Don's passing. Our prayers are with Arlie and the Family. I will always remember his love of the fishing trips to Lake McGregor and the hunting trips to Foothills. He gave me my first ride on a motorcycle. He was in the Strathcona's then we had to sneak into Harvey Barracks because the motorcycle wasn't insured. I had the pleasure of knowing his family in Nova Scotia while I served there in the Navy. So it's not goodbye Hoop, it's so long until we meet again.
