With deep sadness, we regret to inform you that Donald Carl Holte passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 2, 2026, at the age of 92. Don was born on March 26, 1934, in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, to parents Carl and Mabel Holte (deceased). He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Bea (nee Lutness) in 2006.
Don worked for TransAlta Utilities for 35 years and retired early at the age of 55. His passions in life included birding, fishing, camping, playing badminton, golfing, gardening, woodworking, and playing basketball and hockey when he was younger. Special highlights in his life included a trip with Bea across Canada in their mini motorhome, and a hole in one at the age of 76. During his later years, Don enjoyed sitting on his deck to appreciate the view overlooking Fish Creek Park and watching his favourite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Don leaves behind his loving daughter Carrie (Bill), and grandson Steven of Calgary; his son Randy (Kathy) from Penticton, BC, and Kathy's daughter Susan and her family from Revelstoke BC; his sister Joan Jacobi from Breton, AB< and his aunt Ialene Gardiner from Wetaskiwin, AB. He will also be fondly remembered by Carolyn Nault from Edmonton, AB.
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all the people that provided assistance and support, including the firemen and paramedics, the doctors, nurses, and unit clerks in unit 74 and 59 at the Rockyview Hospital, the Home Instead staff, and our friends and family. As per Don's request, he will be cremated and there will be no service. If you wish, please make any remembrance donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
