It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear beloved Donald John Potter (Potts). Don passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from natural causes at the age of 70 years. Don was born in Calgary, Alberta and is survived by his partner, Nancy Lahoda, his sisters, Faye Lux and Jenny Potter (Barry), and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Don is predeceased by his parents, Esther and George Potter, and his sisters, Rita Carmichael and Dana Downing.
Don had a fulfilling career working mostly in the field of information and technology. He was employed by several different companies in Calgary, within the oil and gas and telecommunications industries. In the mid 1980’s Don, looking for a change, accepted an opportunity to move to New Zealand and work for the New Zealand Post for ten years. He loved his time living and becoming a citizen there and spoke often of his New Zealand adventures (go All Blacks!). Back in Canada, Don spent a few years living and working in Moose Jaw, SK and regaled us with his many stories from there. Returning to Calgary, he found work with TELUS in Project Management and worked towards getting his Project Management Professional certification. After retiring from TELUS, Don started his own consulting company taking on different Project Management roles.
Don was totally committed to his partner, family and friends. He loved to host get- togethers and parties – the more the merrier. He was passionate about all sports, wine, travel, the outdoors, music, cooking, reading, painting and learning to play the guitar. His heart was huge with giving, caring, compassion and love for everyone. Potts, you were loved and will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date still to be determined.
