He is predeceased by his mother May, father Stewart, sister Carol and brother Rick.
Don spent his youth moving around Canada living on army bases with his family while his father Stewart served in the military, but he never forgot his East Coast roots and his love of being near the ocean. After a move to Calgary in his teen years Don put his roots down and met the love of his life Maria at 22 years old while they worked at the Holy Cross Hospital, they married five years later in June of 1978.
Don was tenderly known by his family for his love of life, family and friends and how he cherished his wife, Maria. Don had many passions and interests and was a delight to talk to as he eagerly shared stories and random facts about anything and everything. One of his biggest passions was his love of music, he was a drummer in his youth, and an avid music collector which always streamed through his house on great audio equipment. He loved cars, stereos, motorcycling with friends, gourmet cooking for his family, making wine and travel. In his younger years Don enjoyed fishing, camping, road trips and skiing. Later Don played golf and hockey, playing goalie until age 58. He was keenly interested in technology, history, European art and architecture and fixing all things. He was a real jack of all trades. Don’s great work ethic, sharp mind and knack for mechanics and technology led him to a fulfilling and successful 28-year career with Nortel where he worked as a Machinist, Programmer and later Process Engineer, including spending a few months living in Chicago and Mexico moving operating lines. After Nortel’s closing, he spent another 8 years in engineering audio equipment as a Manager at Solectron until his retirement.
Don will be lovingly remembered by all those that knew him for his zest for life. He was a kind, genuine guy, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
