She was born in Calgary on June 2, 1946, to Norman and Elizabeth Johnson. She met and married her high school sweetheart Bob on September 2, 1967, and they spent their life in the neighbourhood of Thorncliffe on Tweed Street, where they raised their two children, Scott and Cindy. Doreen was a dedicated mother and was known in the community as "Everyone's Mom." She frequently volunteered not only at the local schools but at her church Hillhurst United. She was skilled at embroidery, knitting, and everything in the kitchen. Everyone benefited from her intricate blankets, baked goods and hospitality. In time she embraced the opportunity to become a mother-in-law to Alena and Shane. Her pride was in her three grandchildren, Hayley, Asher and Autumn-Arie.
To her friends, she was a listening ear and a loyal companion. Whether it was a cup of tea at a neighbour's kitchen table, or assisting with a craft project, or sharing in a laugh - she was always there.
To her family, she was Mom and everything that entailed. The loudest cheerleader, the biggest hugs, and the fiercest supporter. Always present, she took great pride and joy in her children and grandchildren.
To her husband, she was his life. She was his best friend, his confidant and his ever-faithful love.
She leaves behind a caring, helpful and welcoming legacy to those who knew her. The evidence of her love is firmly planted in the family's lives that she created and nurtured. She will be missed, and she will never be forgotten.
