February 5, 1920 – November 13, 2010
Born in Richdale, Alberta, Dorothy Irene Clements passed away on November 13, 2010 at the Bow View Manor in Calgary at the age of 90 years. Known to her family as “Toots” and to her many friends as Dorothy, Dottie or Dot, she earned the respect of everyone who knew and loved her by overcoming great obstacles in her life. Her tenacious spirit and sense of perfection was admired by all, whether it was in her work, crafts, gardening, baking or any of the other tasks undertaken by her. Toots graduated from Milo High School and then attended Henderson’s Business College. During WWII, she worked as a clerk in the supply depot of the Canadian Army. She then enjoyed a career with United Grain Growers until her retirement, following which she continued to enjoy her family, friends and her many hobbies. Toots was predeceased by her parents, William and Florence Clements, her sister Louise, and her brothers Walter and Joe. She is survived by her sisters Frances (Merv) Goldthorpe, Ethel Heather and Betty (Lloyd) Armstrong, and her brother Lawrence (Doris) Clements, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Toots was such an inspiration to all of us and was loved by so many. Her family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria/Palliser station at Bow View Manor for their dedication and care of Aunt Toots. She will be missed dearly and forever in our hearts. At Aunt Toots request, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 288 Shaganappi Trial N.W., Calgary, Alberta T3B 6A8.
