Dorothy was born on August 30, 1938 in Hillcrest, AB, the youngest of 5 children. She spent some of her formative years in England, before her family moved to Calgary, where she resided until her passing.
Her early professional career was in Computer Programming, and she spoke fondly of her time in this field. Dorothy also took great pride in the completion of her Bachelor Degree in Humanities at the University of Calgary, as a mature student.
Dorothy was an excellent writer, an avid reader and book club member. She meticulously kept a beautiful English garden, keeping close to her British roots. Being active was important to her, and she participated in swimming, bowling, yoga, walking, fitness classes, and more, which kept both her body and mind strong. She enjoyed travelling, and she was privileged to see many beautiful parts of the world. Lady Luck was also on her side, as she was quite successful in her trips to the VLTs. And, she made the most delicious roast ham.
But her love of horses and golden retrievers were her two great passions. She was able to have a childhood dream come true when she bought her first horse, and later a second one. Her times at the stables truly were a sanctuary for her, and she enjoyed not only the companionship but the competitions that she participated in on her beloved Steppie and Winsome. Her relationship with her cherished goldens, Beau and Nelson, also included agility, obedience and confirmation competitions, and deep love. Her current golden retriever, Rio, became another faithful friend.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, and her four older siblings (Peter, Betty, Harold and Ronald). She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Coultry; her daughters Lisa (Kevin), and Carol (David); two grandsons; nephews, nieces; and friends.
