Dorothy loved her life with Farmer; together they came to Alberta from Nova Scotia and started their life and teaching career in Cluny, Alberta. Shortly afterwards they moved to Calgary where she continued teaching for many years for the Catholic School District. Dorothy was an accomplished educator who was respected and loved by both her students and their parents. In her later years, Dorothy was a very proud and active participant in St. Patrick’s Pastoral Care Ministry where the ministry team assisted Father Andrew from St. Patrick’s church in providing spiritual support for patients at the Rocky View Hospital and seniors the Millrise Seniors Village. Dorothy was a devoted wife, true friend, a loving sister, an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a compassionate, faithful child of God. She will be dearly missed by many, but we do know that she is finally content to be with her beloved husband Farmer again.

So. How do you take a timid five year-old boy, “ so lacking in scholastics “ like his older sister, and turn him into a student?
Plunk him down in Mrs. McInnes’ grade one class, and watch that little guy grow!
The singing, rambunctious recesses, and the sheer fun that enveloped our Grade 1 classroom will never leave my soul.
A talented & beautiful, hugging, “spoil my kids” leader was a gift in my early life.
I only regret that I didn’t check in when I had the chance. But seeing Jackie in downtown Calgary over the years was cool enough.
My Best. Blake Patrick McCarthy.
