

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas “Murray” Picken, who passed away peacefully at home in Calgary surrounded by family. He will be lovingly remembered by his cherished wife of 72 years, Mary (nee Nagy) Picken; his seven children: Doug (Isie), Bill (Bente), Dan (Maria), Rosemary (Tim), Susan (Wayne), Barbara (Derek), and Kathleen (Jim); 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. A proud Calgarian, Murray served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (1942-1945), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Calgary Police Service (1947-1978). He enjoyed spending time with family, music, the outdoors, camping, travelling and going for drives with his wife and family. Murray was a talented musician with a keen intellect. He was a dedicated family man and keen story-teller with a great sense of humour. His memory will live in the many people who knew, admired, respected, and loved him. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary(across form Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 7:00 pm -9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 640 19 Ave NW, Calgary, on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.; tributes will start at 9:30 a.m.; prior to Mass. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
