Doug was born in Red Deer, AB on August 24, 1929. He grew up on the family farm near Penhold, AB with his parents and younger brothers; Cyril (Cy), Paul and Walter. Doug would reminisce about Cy and him riding their horses three and a half miles to school in Penhold with Paul and Walter sitting behind them. After high school, he attended Olds Agricultural College. He later became involved in construction management and retired as Western Canada Regional Manager for Canada Gunite. In his younger years, Doug was involved in amateur boxing, but his true passion in life was hunting, target shooting, and fishing. He was an excellent marksman as his many trophies attest to. Doug was president of Rosebud Silhouette and Benchrest Club for 12 years and a great spokesman for the sport. Doug had many close friends throughout his many years and was greatly admired for his strong values and loyalty.
Douglas is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Lavon, son Kevin (Freda), brother Paul, nephew Danny (Lois) Williams of Grande Prairie, AB, niece Cynthia (Tom) McGrath of Elk River, MN, niece Lanny (Greg) DeRoeck of Parker, CO, niece Jennifer (Scotty) Gwinn of Rison, AR, and nephew Robert of Denver, CO.
