Eberhard Herman Krieg

“Herb” (Eberhard) Krieg passed away peacefully on December 8, 2014 in Calgary at the Sarcee Hospice at the age of 88 years. Herb was born in Kuessnach, Germany. He came to Canada in 1930 with his parents, brother and sister to Whitewood Saskatchewan. The family farmed there for many years. Herb left Whitewood in November 1946 for BC and was employed with the CPR as a Telegrapher and Station Agent until 1962. In November 1962 he married the love of his life Katherine (Gini) Sharpe. Herb worked in other areas of transportation in Calgary and Toronto. On his return to Calgary he worked for Otis Engineering, Hydril Canadian and retired from Opsco Industries in 1991. He leaves behind his daughter Kendra (Kim) Letkeman. Herb also leaves behind brother George (Nadine) Krieg and many nephews, nieces and close family friends. Herb is remembered as a loving husband to Gini for 52 wonderful years and a loving father to Kendra. He was predeceased by Gini on September 8 of this year.

The highlight of his retirement was working with seniors including those at First Alliance Church. He arranged many bus trips to places as far as Alaska and the Maritimes. He loved being the trip organizer and tour guide. Herb was known for his TALL TALES and entertaining stories embellished many times over the years. He thrived on his sense of humor and making people laugh. Most of all he was a dedicated family man and was dedicated to the church community and friends.

The family would like to thank the caring doctors and staff at the Sarcee Hospice for their wonderful care of Herb during his time with them. A special thanks to his family doctor, Doctor Salem who went above and beyond taking care of him. Also thanks to all the many family and friends who visited him and kept him company during his time at the hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Herb and Gini’s memory directly to the Sarcee Hospice, 3504 Sarcee Rd SW, Calgary, AB T3E 4T4.

A Celebration of Herb and Gini’s Life will be held at First Alliance Church, 12345 - 40 Street SE in Calgary on December 29, 2014 at 3:00 pm.
