I wanted to just send you a note to say how truly sorry I am about Elaine. Although it has been many years since I saw you both, I have continued to hear a lot about you, Elaine and your son and daughter in law. My sincere condolences,

Elaine was a very special cousin in our lives, someone who cared so much about our two children, Christopher and Maria. She was so attentive, caring and a great listener who took time to make all her visits to Warrenpoint so special. We spent a wonderful time with her, my mum, Lily and Aunt patsy in Portrush some years ago, and Elaine’s, and our only regret,  is that we missed so many years sharing and making lovely memories before this. We will miss Elaine coming back to Ireland, a place she also called home. Joseph and Pauline Smyth and family.

Elaine, “Lainey” (when Seinfeld was popularly watched in Pat Daly’s classroom during lunch at Loyola ) was as many have expressed, someone who instantly drew you in.  Elaine was blessed with grace, beauty, intellect, wit, wisdom, courage, and a most gentle spirit.  To the many students with complex needs that benefitted from her dedication to them and to special education, she made a real and lasting difference.  She was effortless in her kindness and generous with her love and had an uncanny ability to find humour in situations when it was needed most.  
Greg, James, Andrea, I can’t express how very sorry  I am for your loss.  My daughter, who carries Elaine’s namesake,  and is Chaplain in training at Cathedral HS in Hamilton, will pray for Elaine along with faculty and the student body at Elaine’s high school Alma Mater.  May she rest in the peace with the other angels in heaven.

Bill and I send our deepest condolences. I did not think that good enough words existed to describe Elaine and the light she was in this world, but I want to be among those who tried.  Elaine would have done so in a second.  Her intellect , kindness, generosity and humour were mercurial, when Elaine was near there would be laughter. She may have invented the term “gut laughing” , she certainly was an expert in the field! Her mind was a wonder to behold and combined with her heart, her upbringing and her integrity, you knew that she could accomplish the best for everyone involved.  I must add another example of  Elaine and Greg and James’ generous spirits- you  offered your home to our family during our renovations!  Thank you! Many fond memories of ski and shopping trips!  I hope that so many memories and examples of the beautiful lives you built with Elaine will bring you joy again.

Tom and I have been in disbelief and shock since receiving this news.
I keep trying to find words to express our grief for you, James and all those who were blessed to experience any time with  Elaine, and there are none. 
When I shared the news with Hilary and she with her family, my granddaughter Beatrice(13) shared the following:
"Nona(one 'n' as I am Irish;) I'm so sorry for your loss. I get that it can be so hard so I hope you are okay. It's good to grieve, but instead of being sad, I suggest playing all the good memories over and over and remember how lucky you are to have had someone worth missing!"
There are so many memories or as I like to call them, 'happy moments.' 
Our friendship began at Loyola Secondary where you, Marguerite and I nurtured our passion for special education. We quickly became best buddies and shared many adventures with Chris and Janet. Shopping trips, skiing adventures, dinner parties that were all infused with raucous laugher, sometimes tears but it was always  so effortless. One of my most treasured 'moments' was you standing alongside Hilary as my co-maid of honor. You were quite the cupid and would be happy to know that Tom and I will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary in June.  We shared, births(Jesse) deaths, copious events and celebrations, especially James and Andreas wedding and the infamous, 'live band moment!"
There are so many treasured moments that I will hold onto forever and am saddened that we never got to have our planned reunion last year. 
As Beatrice stated, we have all been so blessed to have shared part of our life's journey with Elaine and to say we have had someone worth missing, is an understatement.
Greg and James, it is my hope that we will be ale to get together in the future to share stories of the most wonderful human being, wife and Mother.
May God comfort you and strengthen you in the coming days.

I first met Elaine in 2022. I was immediately drawn to her light. She was so kind, sincere and uplifting. She joined my Mid-Sun Jazzercise class that September and took all our online classes. She was such a dedicated member. She came to our Christmas parties and met some of the ladies in the group. I got to know Elaine through emails and texts and her letters. I enjoyed all the pictures she shared of her travels. She wrote to me after the passing of my son in 2023 and again after the passing of my best friend and soulmate in 2025. Even on the paper, her caring for others shone through. I was fortunate enough to spend one on one time with her this past summer. She will be remembered forever. She left an imprint on my heart. Rest in peace my dear friend. My heart goes out to her husband and all her family and close friends. She was more than special in so many ways.

She was an amazing person who had her priorities regarding family, friends, work and absolutely everything fully realized and understood. For the last few days, through my tears, i have read all the beautiful tributes written by family and friends. Everyone shared wonderful stories about our dear Elaine who was taken from all of us too soon. She was the most amazing woman i have ever met. I have known her for over 50 years and I knew from the moment i met her, she was destined for great things in life.  Her kindness was the one quality everyone would see after a few minutes of meeting her.  She was so humble and one would  never know of all her accomplishments. She always wanted to know how you or the family were doing.
Greg, James and Andrea, please know you have a whole army feeling your pain and that we will carry all of you in our prayers.  Our dear Elaine lives in everyone who met her.  She was truly one of a kind and will always be by your side. No words can take away this horrible pain you are feeling now. Believe we will all be reunited one day in the presence of our dear Lord. I was saddened to hear that my friend Elaine had passed away suddenly.  I met Elaine several times at the home of her Aunts, Kathleen and Eily Smyth in Newry St. Warrenpoint. I shared many times with her, at her Uncle Vincy and Aunty Betty's home in Newry. Elaine was a very warm, kind and generous person.  She loved visiting Warrenpoint and enjoyed many walks along the Sea Front,and sailings on Carlingford Lough in my boat,Seascapes.

My favorite moment standing behind my hairdressing chair of 38 years is when I was blessed to have Elaine sitting in front of me.  She was never a client in my eyes and in my heart she was a friend. One of the most divine interventions that we crossed paths once a month 🙌 she showered me with kindness and insight that was beyond a hair appointment.  Her natural beauty made my work light. I find it hard to believe I look at my calendar with her hair appointment in it and a few days later her funeral service.
I will be honoring Elaine with all her future appointments already made with some volunteer time to those in need.  Those appointments will  be irreplaceable.  I will hold close to my heart the stories she shared with me about her beloved Greg and her son and daughter in law. As well I heard about all the nieces and nephews engagements and weddings she spoke of her family often I feel like I know you all personally.  We had a very touching relationship I touched her physically and she touched me spiritually.  There will never be another like her and I will miss her dearly and often.
Elaine thank you forever choosing me to be on your wonderful tour. 
You left me filled with a grace I hadn't had before. 

Go rest high on that mountain, your work on earth is done, go to heaven a shouting love for the father and the son.

I was so saddened to hear of Elaine’s passing , and am still finding it hard to believe that this vibrant, caring friend is no longer with us.  Elaine and I first met as VP’s at Holy Cross.  We shared many laughs then, and our friendship and good times continued, alongside Diane and Donna, as we travelled Ontario on our regular jaunts.  While I will miss Elaine very much, the memories of our many wonderful times spent together will never be forgotten.

Greg & Elaine started out as our new neighbours in Feb. 2007.
We quickly became wonderful friends. 
During COVID we became moral support for each other with texting jokes, ordering pizza delivery from same restaurant at same time, and talking from a distance over the fence.
After they both retired, in Dec. 2021 they moved to Calgary to be close to James & Andrea.
We visited them in Calgary in Sept 2022 in their new home and had a wonderful visit including going to Banff, and the Foothills.
We will never forget our special time with them kayaking, dining and visiting with Andrea’s family.

It was with great shock and sorrow that I learnt of Elaine's passing.
I met Elaine when we were both employed in leadership positions with the Halton Catholic District School Board.  Elaine's talents were obvious as she rose through leadership roles to the position of Superintendent of Education, and then on to provincial positions of responsibility.  Elaine's devotion to her Faith was very evident and her commitment to educating our students was exemplary.  Elaine became a very close friend, who with Donna and Susan enjoyed our many activities from Algonquin to Niagara, whether hiking, exploring and, of course eating - be it ice cream, English tea or many breakfasts.   I will miss her laugh!  Deepest condolences to Greg, James and Andrea.

I am so saddened to write this message to Elaine's family. I met Elaine through an exercise group (Jazzercise) in Oakville.  She was such a warm and caring person who always stopped by the Jazzy "desk" to say Hi! When my husband Dave died suddenly in 2019, Elaine took the time to write some comforting words. After some time had passed and she thought I was up to it, she took me out to lunch at a place called Returno's and insisted it was her treat. She definitely was a special person who brought joy to those who knew her.

I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Elaine was an extraordinary teacher and an extraordinary person. She had a gift for seeing the God‑given potential in her students long before they saw it in themselves and I will always be grateful that I was one of those students. I think she had a soft spot for me, as we shared the experience of immigrating from County Down in Ireland as young children.  The encouragement she gave me in high school shaped the direction of my life more than she ever knew.

When our paths crossed again during my time in teacher’s college—at a moment when I was struggling—she extended that same gentle wisdom and support. Her presence in my life during those years was a blessing, and a reminder of how God places people in our path at just the right time.

I am grateful, too, for the beautiful way life came full circle. Teaching James was a privilege, and seeing him serve as an altar server at my wedding is a memory I hold dearly. It meant a great deal that all of you there on such an important day.

Please know that I am keeping you and James, and your entire family in my prayers. May Christ’s peace be a comfort to you, and may you feel the nearness of God in your sorrow. I pray that Our Lord welcomes her into His eternal embrace, and that the light of her faith and the love she shared continue to live on in all those she taught and touched.

I am so deeply sorry to learn of Elaine's passing. She was a dear friend of my mother, Moira Perkovich and a great champion for me as I entered the world of education. Jamie and I were deeply saddened to hear of Elaine’s passing. We feel so fortunate to have known her - and all of you - through our treasured friendship with Louise Ann and Jim, and we hold many warm memories of time spent together.

I met Elaine last June. She had flown to Toronto to spend several days caring for a family member who is a dear friend of mine.  We developed an instant bond.  Elaine was delightful - a cheerful, energetic, and very competent and caring caregiver . She had a gift for quickly finding out what she needed to know about someone. (In this case, that someone was me.). By the end of her visit, she was calling me her newest sister, and I happily reciprocated. 
We texted on and off over the ensuing months. Her latest text  began with "Happy Galentine's Day, Sis!" on February 14. 
I will really miss this extraordinary woman, and I offer my deepest condolences to her family.

To the Hine and Smyth family.  Stephen and I are so shocked by this sudden and terrible loss.  We spent such lovely times in Ellicotville , skiing, diners, chatting.  Our heart and love go out to all of you.  She will be truly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with her at Loyola.  She was my department head who believed in empowering her coworkers.  My condolences to Greg and family.

Greg, James and Andrea, I am so greatly saddened to hear this news. Elaine was more than a friend to me and I am going to miss her greatly. Whenever I was in need of prayers, I would ask her to pray for me and I know those prayers had a direct line to Heaven. I am praying for all of you as you face this heartbreaking sorrow.

I’m deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of beloved colleague, Elaine.  We shared an interest in our Irish heritage and culture. Her unflagging interest in the education of children was only outdone by her affection for family and friends.
