It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Simison at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on January 29, 2025. Born in Scott, Saskatchewan, on October 31, 1935, Betty lived a life rich in love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
Betty is survived by her only sister, Lynn (Dave); two daughters, Beth (Dennis) and Cherry (Dave); one nephew, Shawn; seven grandchildren: Rob, Hazen, Angela, Katherine, Randy, Tamara, and Mikyla; and twelve great-grandchildren: Brooke, Cameron, Charlie, Kelsey, Damon, Adelyn, Emily, Colin, Jason, Maliyah, Siraya, and Lucas.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chris and Bert; her beloved husband, Len; her cherished daughter, Sandra and her treasured grandson Jason.
Betty’s family was her greatest pride and joy. She often spoke of how blessed and grateful she was for her loved ones, frequently sharing stories of their achievements and expressing her unwavering support. Wherever she went, she filled our homes with love, laughter and warmth, especially during the countless dinners and holidays shared together.
A proud recipient of a Lifetime Membership to the Royal Canadian Legion in 2008, Betty was deeply involved in her community. She organized Remembrance Day festivities, coordinated various Legion events, and actively participated in the Poppy Fund. She was very social, cared deeply for veterans and spent endless hours at the legion. Betty was also honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for her significant contributions.
Known for her larger-than-life personality, Betty’s presence was unmistakable. Her hearty laughter and radiant smile could light up any room, and her spirited nature ensured that everyone knew when she had arrived.
In her leisure time, Betty enjoyed cooking, cribbage, shuffleboard, crochet, and knitting among other things. She generously shared her talents by baking and delivering cookies to local radio stations during the night and donating handmade hats and scarves to those in need.
Betty’s legacy of love, kindness, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Funeral Service was held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary Alberta on Monday February, 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
