

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Elsie Viola Stewart, of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at the age of 94 years and 11 months on Monday, July 4th, 2011. Elsie was born in Fenner near Coronation on July 24, 1916 to Thomas & Effie Laing. She was the second eldest of 7 children. Elsie trained to be a teacher at the “Calgary Normal School” upon completion she began teaching at the local school for 3 years during which time she met Bob. Elsie and Bob were married in 1939 and spent their life farming until his death in 1984. Elsie then moved to Calgary with her daughter Sharon where she lived for 25 years. She had a great passion for art and loved to paint for her friends and family. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Bob in 1984; her son- in-law Heinz in 1987; 4 brothers, George Lee in 1915 as a baby, Edgar in 1993, Glen in 2000, Bob in 2004; one sister-in-law, Winnifred Laing; one brother-in-law, Oswald Geehan and all her In-Laws on the Stewart side. Elsie is survived by two daughters, Sharon Stewart and Constance Grundmann, of Calgary; Grandson, Lorne Grundmann of Calgary; Granddaughter, Carol Bushfield and her Husband Keith, and her two Great Granddaughters, Alexis and Reiss Bushfield all of Calgary; Sisters, Alberta (Don) Loewen of Linden and Grace Geehan of Red Deer, two sisters-in-law, Nell Laing of Olds and Jean Laing, of Innisfail and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
