Millie is lovingly remembered by her daughters Laura Craig and Marilyn Lamont; her grandchildren Kevin, Bonnie and Amber and her great-grandsons Grayson and Theodore. She is also survived and loved by her sister Wanda (Neil) Thomas; brother Frank (Myrna) Marcinowski; brother-in-law Thomas “Tom” McCauley and 11 nieces and nephews.
Born in Loomis, Saskatchewan, Millie was the middle of nine children. She made her way to Calgary where she met her husband and raised their family. Early on it was her love of family that drew her to gardening, canning, baking and hosting their extended family get-togethers. While her children grew, she divorced and completed her high school equivalency, returning to the workforce as a school janitor, liquor store clerk, bank teller and office assistant.
Millie was overjoyed when her grandchildren arrived and years later her great grandsons. Her lifelong philosophy was “family comes first.” Always resilient she faced her many health challenges head on and was victorious so often that her granddaughter described her as “a tough old bird.”
Millie enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, ceramics, and working on an assortment of crafts. She had fun playing solitaire, wearing thin many a deck of cards and in later years, playing it on her iPad. Working on jigsaw puzzles also brought her great pleasure.
Millie was predeceased by her parents Ignacy “John” and Katrazyna “Kathryn or Kay” Marcinowski, sisters Mary Marcinowski and Marilyn McCauley, sister and brother-in-law Olga (Bud) Sheridan, brothers and sisters-in-law Bernard “Bernie” (Edie) Marcinowski, Michael “Mike” (Anita) Marcinowski, John (Eunice) Marcinowski and 3 nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed by many family and friends. At Millie’s request, there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will join her parents at Elko Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Southwood Care Centre for the kindness and care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Millie’s memory directly to a charity of your choice.
