This strong, stoic woman brought courage, determination and hard work to every part of a life well-lived. She faced head-on her many challenges, health-related indignities of growing older and the burden of an insidious disease that attacked her in 2002. Born in Tilley, Alberta, Emma married in 1948 and the family moved to Calgary in 1956. Emma made many lifelong friends through her childhood around and in Tilley, farming, work outside the home, world travel and hobbies such as bowling. She was an accomplished upholstery cutter, seamstress and master of cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting and crochet. Later in life, she also enjoyed camping and fishing. She loved the people in her life with a deep and resilient strength. We were blessed to know her for so many years as she embraced each new phase in her life.
Emma was predeceased by her husband Zoltan Gabriel, who died in 1994; special friend Art Helderweirt; parents Micheal and Maria Dzamka; brothers Steve (Jen) and Joe (Barbara); son Gary and brother-in-law Vince Spindor. She is missed by her sister Olga Spindor; daughters Maggie (Tony) McCallum and Rose (Gary) Cardiff; brother-in-law Steve (Lorelei) Hajash; granddaughter Lindsey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Peacefully sleeping, resting at last. The world’s weary troubles and trials are past.
