Ernie and his wife, Jan, enjoyed 55 years together playing golf, tennis, hiking, biking, skiing, and travelling. He was a loving father to Colleen (Jeff Nazarchuk) of Calgary, Alberta, and Ernest of Cultus Lake, British Columbia; his granddaughter, Lilly Nazarchuk, was a bright light in his life. Uncle to Kelly McMurray, Jason, Darren, and Matt McCrank. Brother of Neil McCrank (Sue) of Calgary. Brother in-law of Paul and Lorraine MacDowall of Carlton Place, Ontario. Predeceased by parents Mary (Amyotte), and Ernest McCrank.
Ernie graduated in Medicine, in 1964, from Queen’s University. After his residency in Psychiatry, he went on to work at Homewood (Guelph, Ontario), then onto Western University (London, Ontario), where he became an Emeritus Professor in Psychiatry.
Since coming to Calgary in 2001, he continued his focus on helping patients with anxiety disorders. Ernie was always committed to improving the lives of those who suffered from these disorders. He also served many years on the Mental Health Review Board of Alberta.
During the last few years, he was afflicted with complications of his 67 year-long battle with diabetes. He was always courageous and accepting of the issues with which he had to contend.
His humour and kindness will never be forgotten by his many friends.
Ernie’s family would like to thank the staff on Unit 81, at Foothills Hospital, in Calgary, for their unyielding care and compassion during his 7-week hospitalization.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Gathering to be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday, December 15, 2019 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
