Felix was born in Stendal, Germany in 1928 and immigrated to Canada in 1952 when he was 24 years old. He often spoke with pride on how he arrived in Canada with 12 cents in his pocket and worked his way through many careers to provide for his family.
Tinker, taylor, soldier, thief
Was my Grandpa one of these?
He has been a boxer, police officer, outhouse cleaner, cow milker, dishwasher, salesclerk, press operator, farmer, candy store owner, and parts warehouse supervisor. History showed that no job was beneath him or his determination to provide for his family. He proudly survived his time in a Russian Prisoner of War Camp during WWII under very trying circumstances. Felix was the epitome of self-perseverance, confidence and survival. He was a renown table tennis player and judge, past president of the German Canadian Club and avid hunter.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Helga Pardes Koch, who passed away in 2003.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Hans Koch, sister Sylvia Koch Mauer and his children Nicole Weber, husband Doug and Michael Koch. He would like to express his deepest gratitude to his daughter-in-law Sophie Koch for all the care she had given him during his last years. He held great fondness and pride for his grandchildren, Brenna Fraser, her husband Kris, Marcus Goodwin, Stephen Weber, Lucas Koch and finally his great-grandchildren Dyllyn and Malakye Duckett, Taylor and Annika Fraser.
As per Felix’s request there will be no formal memorial or service. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA to honor his love of animals.
