Mr. Frank Foon Wong

May 9, 1931January 15, 2020

Frank Foon Wong was born in Bak Saw in the county of Toy Shan in Canton, China.

At the age of 14, Foon went to Guangzhou to learn how to fix cars. After two apprenticeships, Foon became a car mechanic at the Luk Kwok Garage. His love of cars lead him to become a driving instructor in Hong Kong. There, he met his wife Jick. Soon after, they were wed and were blessed with the birth of their daughter Wendy.

In 1969, Foon and his young family immigrated to Canada to ensure a bright future for their daughter. While his family settled in Calgary, Foon headed to Edmonton to study English. He then returned to Calgary to start a business, Yee’s Fine Foods, with his uncle. Soon after, he celebrated the arrival of his son, Tony.

Taking his pastor’s advice, he shifted his focus back towards his love of cars and began work as a mechanic on heavy vehicles. When Foon suffered a stroke in 1987 and could no longer work, his schedule shifted to attempting daily walks and vigorous study of newspapers.

His loving wife Jick supported him every step of the way.

After a misstep in 2010, Foon moved to the Wing Kei Care Centre. There, he appreciated the supportive care of the Wing Kei staff and enjoyed Jick’s daily visits.

Foon passed away on January 15, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital, after being admitted overnight.

Foon will be remembered for his tireless perseverance in a life hardened by mishaps.

He will be missed deeply by his wife Jick, daughter Wendy, son Tony, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and his baby granddaughter, Quinn, together with countless family and friends.

We wish to deeply thank the staff at Wing Kei, and everyone who celebrates Foon’s durable spirit.
