He was born in Youngstown, Ohio and lived in Montreal with his parents and seven siblings until he was thirteen years old. The family then moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia – a place he referred to as “God’s Country” – where he lived until joining the military at age 23.
After a posting to Kingston, Ontario he met and married Pauline Edwards, the love of his life. The family lived overseas and on the east coast before eventually settling in Calgary. After retiring from the military in 1980, Fred worked as a caretaker in the Calgary School Board and retired in 1995.
Fred is survived by his two daughters Elizabeth Wade and Catherine Wade; his son Fred (Nancy) Wade; grandchildren Joshua (Stephanie) Wade and Bethany Wade (Kirby Lawrence); three great-grandchildren, and sister Dorothy Mackenzie. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Pauline; brothers John (Isabelle) Wade; William (Pauline) Wade; Richard Wade; sisters Clara (Earl) Reid, Marie (Bill) Hardy; Margaret (George) Doucette. Fred will be missed by his sister-in-laws Geraldine Wade, Margaret Jean (Lloyd) Meyers and many nephews and nieces.
If friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Mustard Seed or charity of your choice.
An Urn Committal Service for the family will take place in Queen’s Park Cemetery at a later date.
