

Gene Miller passed away suddenly on Monday, August 1, 2016, at the age of 63 years. Gene was born near Marchwell, Saskatchewan, and moved to Calgary as a child. He worked for Canadian Western Natural Gas before joining the Calgary Fire Department in 1980, and subsequently retired as Fire Captain after 28 years of service. Gene was a man of integrity, with a generous heart, an enquiring nature, and a talent for learning anything he put his mind to. His passions included music, cooking and gardening. Gene’s greatest care and love were for his family; he especially cherished his grandchildren Citlally and Jaze. Gene is survived by his wife Barbara Hume; his children Carly (daughter of Cathy Miller) and Emily (daughter of Luann Frances); his two grandchildren; his siblings Bill, Stan, Merv (Isobel), Curtis (Lorna), Lorraine (Rick) and Dianne; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Albert Robert Miller, his mother Christina Wilhelmina Rathgaber, and his brother Bob. A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held at the Calgary Winter Club – Skyline Room, 4611 – 14 St. N.W., (Upper entrance) on Monday August 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made directly to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society 2234 - 30 Avenue N.E.
