George “Earl” Smith of Crossfield, Alberta, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the age of 86 years. Earl is survived by his two daughters Karen Smith, and Cheryl (Dave) Krug; nieces Lynne (Wayne) Smith-Ellis, and Sharon Klassen; sister-in-law Margaret Darough; and many great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He will also be lovingly missed by his dear dog Shayna. Earl was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce; his parents Thomas and Lillian; and his brother Edward “Ted”. Earl was born and educated in Calgary. He apprenticed and worked as an upholsterer for the CPR before settling in as an auditor at Gulf Canada Ltd. After retiring from Gulf Canada, Earl spent many happy years in the Columbia Lake area in the house that he built until he moved to Crossfield, where he bought the Western Buy and Sell as a way to stay active in retirement. A Funeral Service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. A Visitation will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate) on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 11.00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.
