

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gwendolin and his daughter-in-law, Sylvia. He is survived by son Brian (Dorothy) of Banff, daughter Alice Noquez of Long Beach, CA, sister Isabel (Bill) Betz of Headingly, MB, sister-in-law Ila Morrish of Stettler, AB, 5 wonderful grandchildren, Amber, Heather (Royden) Wideman, Derek, Kayla, and Victoria and two great- grandchildren Ronin and Lila plus numerous nephews and nieces.
Gerry was born in Cypress River, MB and spent his early years during the Depression growing up on a farm east of Glenboro, MB. He served four years in the RCAF 1941-1945 as a radar mechanic and pilot. He served overseas in England and Scotland 1941-1943. After WWII, Gerry attended the University of Alberta, Edmonton and graduated in 1950 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He married Gwendolin Murrie Neill of Camrose, AB on June 6, 1950.
They took up residence in Banff, AB where together they started his dental practice. He practiced dentistry in Banff for 42 years and retired in 1992. Gerry was an active Rotarian since 1967. He was President of the Banff Rotary Club 1971-1972 and was later recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his exceptional service. He was passionate about flying and maintained various aircraft including a vintage WWII Harvard at the Banff airstrip from 1962-1981. Gerry was a long standing member of the Rundle Memorial United Church.
In his later years, he was very active with the Banff Seniors Society and served on the Board. He greatly enjoyed curling, snooker, photography, gardening, reading and world events. Always a gentleman, he was devoted to family and community and quick to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered most for his unconditional love of family and missed by all those he knew and touched during his remarkable life.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Rundle Memorial Church, 302 Buffalo Street in Banff at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow at the Banff Seniors’ Center at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
