With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerard “Cook” Pius Tremblett on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta. Cook passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and of complications from lung transplant at the age of 68.
Cook, the youngest of ten, was born September 2, 1955 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador to Thaddeus and Muriel (Nolan) Tremblett of Mt. Carmel, NL.
Gerard is survived by his loving partner Ellie Sundberg, and his son Mark Tremblett. Gerard is also survived by his brothers James, Albert (Susan), Ted (Laura) and sisters Ruth (Michael), Helen (Paul), and Kathy (Mike), and Mark’s mother, Cass Whittle. He will be missed by all his nieces and nephews as well as Ellie’s family. Cook will be remembered fondly by his extended family and friends from sea to sea. Gerard was pre-deceased by his Mom and Dad, brothers John (Kay), Bert, and sister Pat (Lloyd).
Cook was a proud Newfoundlander and true son of Canada. He was always coming up with tales and stories about his numerous drives across Canada and his wide array of jobs, some including grocery deliveries, bookie collections, off shore oil driller, glue factory worker, construction worker, and building inspector. After each of these adventures, he would come away with lifelong friends and buddies.
On New Year's Eve 2017, Gerard received the gift of new lungs from an anonymous donor at the University of Alberta Hospital. This gave Gerard an extra six and a half years of easy breathing. We are continually thankful to the donor family and transplant teams in both Edmonton and Calgary. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care unit in Calgary for the care and support of our beloved Cook.
In lieu of flowers, a Breathing Space Donation can be made through Alberta Lung at https://ablung.ca/. Breathing space is an innovative place providing support and accommodations for lung transplant patients and their families during the transplant process.
A Memorial Reception will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
