He met the love of his life, Diana, at the age of 19 years old. Diana already had four children from a previous relationship but Glen didn't hesitate and fit right in to the ready- made family. Shortly thereafter, Glen and his family moved to Calgary, Alberta. Glen and Diana married on December 29, 1986 and gave birth to a daughter, Suzanne. Glen and Diana share a love for each other that was admired by many. Even after nearly 30 years together, you could still find them holding hands and smooching, even as their children cringed. Glen did not only love his wife, he was madly in love with her. The kind of love that stands the test of time and all of the trials and tribulations that life can often bring. Diana will miss her husband dearly, but is thankful to have had many wonderful years with him.
Shortly after arriving in Calgary, Glen began his employment at TransContinental Printing, and remained there for the next 27 years. He worked his way up the ladder at TransCon and earned a reputation for being a strong leader who was firm but fair. Glen thoroughly enjoyed his career and looked forward to working with the people he did every day. His legacy of leadership will live on in the company that he helped to be successful.
Glen was always very close with his five children. It was very normal for each of his children to speak with him at least every couple of days. Even though they have all found their life partners and have had children of their own, not a birthday, holiday, or special occasion went by without the entire Garland clan getting together at dad's house for a good old fashioned Jigs Dinner, cooked by the man himself from scratch. It was something of a joke in the family to fight over dad's amazing Newfy dressing and salt meat. Glen was always present at graduations, sporting games, weddings, births, etc for his children and grandchildren. No matter how busy life got, he was always there for those important milestones. His children and grandchildren are blessed with many wonderful memories.
Aside from his family, there were two passions in Glen's life that you could count on. One was his love for animals and the second, was his beloved motorcycle. Recently, he founded an organization that combined his two passions in such a way that allowed him, along with many others, the opportunity to support their favourite animal charities. Ride Dogs Ride foundation was born in 2013 and is the one accomplishment that gave him the most pride. If you had the pleasure of conversing with him, it wouldn't take long before you started to learn about what he does on a daily basis to help those who do not have their own voice. This love for animals was shared by many of his motorcycle riding friends, and together they have raised thousands of dollars through the Ride Dogs Ride Motorcycle Poker Run. An event that attracts hundreds of amazing individuals who believe so deeply in helping local animal charities.
Glen is survived by his devoted wife of almost 30 years, Diana. His mother in law, Marjorie. His four sisters, Cora (Marshall), Lorna (Brent), Doreen (Kevin), and Elsie (Darryl). His brother, Chesley (Debbie). His five children, Daphne (Amanda), Jennifer (Dion), Laura (Norman), Munden (Ashley), and Suzanne (Jamie). His seven grand children, Tianna, Skyler, Brooklyn, Jordon, Taylor, Mia, and Layton. And the many, many lives he touched through his various charity and volunteer work. He was predeceased by his father, George Garland, and grandparents Daris and Rose Welsh.
