Grace Findlay Morrison (nee Bell) born March 22, 1931, is finally at rest with her beloved husband, Jack Morrison. She passed away on the same day as Jack, November 9th, 2023, 42 years after his passing. She was devoted to his memory with the knowledge that they would be together again.
Grace came from Glasgow, Scotland to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the 1950’s. She said it was like landing on the moon. When all other memories were fading, she never forgot Glasgow and could be heard telling other residents in her home that she never lived anywhere else.
Grace lived a life continuously seeking inspiration. Spiritual in her journey to accept things as they come and to just get on with it. To those that did not know her well, she was shy and reserved but in reality, she was strong, determined and fiercely independent.
She loved to discuss literature and politics and was always aware of the world around her. She never stopped learning and was deeply compassionate to the plight of others.
Grace loved her brother’s Stan and Leslie deeply and often told stories of growing up with them. Her Nana was the foundation of her childhood’s happy memories in Dumfries which she never forgot.
She is survived by her four children, David Morrison, Russell Morrison, Linda Morrison (Derek) and Laura Fitterer (Steve), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and her “wee brother”, J. Leslie Bell.
We picture you free and happy. We picture you each night on the amber moon.
Sunsets
We share sunsets
drawing each other’s attention
to nuances of colour
light enhanced cloud-forms.
A sense of urgency
informs our appreciation
conscious of impermanence
of transient beauty.
No need for words
impossible to articulate
(accept by the wine-bluffs lexicon)
Such shot-silk subtlety.
We share a sunset
making our own horizon
enjoying the slow spin to the light
with still no need for words.
