After a courageous four-year battle with ovarian cancer, our dearest wife and mother, Hazel Loke, 70, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Hazel was born in Canton, China, as the youngest of seven siblings. After graduating high school in Hong Kong, she left to travel, work and study as a nurse in London, England, and Wintherthur, Switzerland. In 1975, she obtained her Canadian citizenship and reunited with the rest of her family in Calgary, Canada. Nine years later, she married Jerry Loke, and they had three daughters.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and always considered family to be her most important job. She enjoyed cooking, sharing meals and spending quality time together with loved ones. Hazel could often be found whipping up blueberry smoothies for the grandkids or sneaking some delicious leftovers to our family dog, Joules. Hazel's true joy came from her five grandchildren. Whenever Hazel was with her grandkids, it was difficult to tell who was having more fun.
Hazel's other true passion was traveling. Hazel and Jerry embarked on countless road trips across Canada and the USA, finding many favorite spots such as Mount Rushmore, the Pacific Coast Highway and the Grand Canyon. As they travelled around the globe and explored different cultures together, they visited places like St. Petersburg, Dubai and Shangri-La.
We will miss her greatly and she will be forever remembered in our hearts. She is survived by her husband Jerry, her three children, Cynthia (Sebastian), Jacqueline (Richie), Bonita (Cameron) and five grandchildren (Cayden, Adalyne, Gemma, Emery and Nora).
Hazel has requested no services to be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca/en/
