

Henry Sattler, beloved husband of Mairead, passed away peacefully at his residence in Calgary, AB from complications of COPD on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the age of 83 years. Also left to grieve are his two daughters, from a previous marriage Trudy and Christine. Henry will also be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Anna Quinlan, niece Maria (Ian) Doll and their children Brendan, Sophia and Alexander as well as numerous relatives in Germany. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law David Quinlan. Henry was born in the German region of Tarutino, Bessarabia in Romania. After WWII the family returned to Germany. Henry emigrated from Germany with his parents John and Lydia in 1949. Henry lived in Regina, SK for some time before moving to Calgary, AB. He was a fine tailor and worked for the Bay downtown for thirty six years, and was supervisor of the Calgary region until his retirement in 1992. Henry’s greatest passion was soccer and for seventeen years was club manager of the Calgary Kickers. He and Mairead attended many FIFA World Cups hosted in several countries and enjoyed many trips to Mexico, the U.S. and Europe. Henry enjoyed making sausage in the fall and also was an avid winemaker and won several prizes at the annual wine tasting banquet at the Calgary Italian Club. Over the last few months Henry’s health declined rapidly. He was blessed with a long life and many wonderful friends and is at peace. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Parish, 404 Northmount Place N.W.
