Goodbye Jim Drever, I knew him as Jim-Bob.  We lived together in a shared house in S.W. Calgary. Jim was going to SAIT and I was at the U of C .  We had lots of good fun during those 2 semesters, some parties, the girls across the street and just hanging out.  Jim was always positive, easygoing, funny and fun to be around.  Jim graduated from SAIT at the end of that year and we all moved on.  Jim got a pretty good job with Alberta Trunk Line, met Debbie and was soon married.  We met up a couple of years ago via Facebook and got together for coffee and a good time visit.  It was sure great to see him and catch up.  He was healthy and good.  When I contacted him this spring to hook up again he was not good. Today I found out that he is gone.  I can only express my sadness and give my condolences to Debbie and his daughter, and to everyone that knew Jim ...  😢

One of my most favorite memories of Jim was visiting my Mum’s Aunt Mary, Jim’s mother,  out at their farm in Maple Creek Saskatchewan in the early 1970s. My sister and I were little and Jim had long hair. My Dad referred to him as a hippie, lol. They had pigs, cows and a grain storage room which he had us go inside and then shut the door on us. We were giggling until a poor little mouse emerged and then we began to scream like we were about to be murdered! Jim immediately opened the door and out ran the mouse with the two us right behind it. He said we’d almost given him a heart attack. The farm was wonderful and remains as one of my fondest childhood memories. Jim had visited me in Chicago a number of years ago and then after we managed to keep in touch over the years. Last time I’d seen him was in Maple Creek to visit his mum who passed shortly thereafter. We had last spoken in July of 2023 and he had texted that he, now retired, and Debbie might take a road trip down to visit me in Chicago or at my farm in central Wisconsin. It wasn’t to ever happen. I was horribly saddened to learn he passed recently. My deepest condolences and sympathy to Debbie and Paige and to Jim’s only remaining sibling Carolyn, I’d like to think that all passed kind souls become stars in our sky in which one more has been added.  So sorry for your loss, he will be missed.

Jim was a terrific member of our staff in the print department. Always ready to pitch in and a great resource for our clients.  My sincere condolences to his family.

Jim walked into his interview at SAIT with quiet confidence. It didn’t take long for us to decided he would be an excellent instructor. And he was. Jim imparted his own confidence to his students, carefully steering them to success. He laughed often, buckled down when work had to be done, and kept his head up during the financial crisis SAIT staff had to endure in the 90s. I am grateful to have become a friend. He cheered me up when times were rough; I hope and pray I did the same for him. My heartfelt condolences to Wendy, Paige, and the rest of his family and friends who loved and lost a good man.

So sorry to hear this Jim was a gentle soul but mostly of all I remember his humour.

I was sad to see that Jim has passed away-my memories of him are that he was kind, intelligent and lived a good life. My mother Joyce Jennings, was his first cousin and she often spoke fondly of the Drever family.  I also remember our family being at his and Debbie’s wedding in Moosejaw-a beautiful, friendly,  family reunion, also. Over the years,  I visited his Mom, Great Aunt Mary in  Maple Creek, on my annual drive to Montana when visiting my family,  and we had great talks. Her pride was her family,  and she once shared Jim’s watercolour paintings, and with love I remember her talking about  Jim’s many interests, including photography, and riding his motorcycle from Calgary to come and visit her.  When our family would gather to visit my Grandma,  while she was  in the extended care,  Jim was there, and his  warmth and compassion toward others was evident through his words and actions. Please accept my condolences,  and know the family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Jim was my brother in- law and my best man at my wedding. I could never be so proud of someone as I feel for Jim. He always had a smile and when he asked how you were, he said it in such a way to show how much he cared. Your a good man Jim and I will miss you very much. Thank you being a good friend.
