

On Saturday, April 7th, 2018, James R. Hume (Senior) of Calgary, AB completed a long life full of accomplishments. He was 93 years old. Jim was born in Bashaw, AB, in 1924. He served as a navigator in the RCAF from 1943-45, graduated with a BSc in Mining Engineering from the Univ. of Alberta in 1949, and worked as a geophysicist for Home Oil Co. Ltd. until his retirement in 1986. He served as president of APEGGA (1971-72) and CSEG (1984); more recently he was named an honourary fellow of Engineers Canada (2009) and a fellow of Geoscientists Canada (2013). Jim was predeceased by his sisters, Maryon (1979) and Elizabeth (1994); his son, Michael (2005); and his wife, Joan (2010). He is survived by his brother, William; his son, James; his daughters, Mary and Barbara; as well as three grandchildren, Rebecca, Jeremy, and Joshua.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Friday, April 20th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
