Jim Hutton of Calgary passed away at home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the age of 69. Jim fought a valiant battle with idiopathic pulmonary disease and he handled his illness with grace and good humour.
Jim was born and raised in Calgary and spent his entire life in Calgary. He attended James Fowler High School and the University of Calgary. Jim spent his early career as a bank manager with Canada Trust and then moved to become an independent financial consultant until his retirement in 2018. Jim loved all sports and was a dedicated Calgary Flames fan all his life. He played hockey in his younger years. Jim also loved all music and no one could beat him at Name That Tune. He had an extensive and eclectic taste in music and enjoyed playing his guitars.
In recent years, Jim and his wife Coleen enjoyed travelling and visited Europe, Hawaii, and many cities in the United States. Coleen is especially grateful for the last trip they took together to Ireland in September of 2019 before Jim was diagnosed with his illness.
Jim had lifelong close friendships which he cherished and his friends kept him engaged with the outside world in the last few years. Coleen wishes to acknowledge in particular Dave Ebbeson, Mike Dickson, Graham Russell, and Bob Kovacs for keeping in touch with Jim and lifting his spirits as he fought his illness.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Coleen Hutton, his sister Colleen Cooper, sister-in-law Kathleen Carbury (Al), nieces Amanda (Braden), Nicole (Nick) and his nephew Garratt (Elin) as well as his great niece Isla. He is predeceased by his father Jake Hutton, mother Olive Hutton, and brother-in-law Doug Cooper.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Marcus Povitz and Bonny Edmondson from the Foothills Hospital department of internal medicine, and the AHS COPD Palliative Care Team for the outstanding care and support they provided to both Jim and Coleen during his illness.
In lieu of a funeral, the family will hold a celebration of Jim’s life at a later date.
