

James Eldon Albert Nixon passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the age of 80 years. James is survived by his sisters, Margaret Elsie Currie (nee Nixon) and Mary Alberta Catherine Melrose (nee Nixon); brothers, George William Nixon (Marion), Donald Frederick Nixon (Loreen) and Murray Alexander Nixon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as Frank and John Van Kruyssen and their extended families. He was predeceased by his mother, Alberta Ann Nixon (nee Bradley); father, William James Nixon; brother, Glen Evans Nixon and long-time partner, Beth Van Kruyssen.
James was interested in mechanics at an early age and became a licensed mechanic in 1973. He and his brother Murray left Ontario in August 1964 for Calgary, where he was to remain until his passing. James and Beth enjoyed square dancing and camping for many years meeting and making new friends. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955. James and Beth were members of Dots ‘n’ Dashers Square Dancers as well as members of the Greater Forest Lawn 55+ Society. In 1988, James and Beth had the opportunity with their square dancing team to compete in the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta.
A Memorial Reception will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in James’s memory directly to the Greater Forest Lawn 55+ Society, (3425 26 Avenue SE Calgary, AB T2B 2P2).
