With the sun warming her face on a sunny afternoon, Janet slipped away from her children’s embrace to join her husband Colin in their eternal love. Janet accepted her recent diagnosis with grace and dignity making her own decisions “her way”. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering love and support to those in her life.
Janet was born to George and Marie Minor in Magrath, Alberta, as the first girl in the family of nine. Putting up with her brothers she quickly became strong of will and heart.
After leaving home Janet moved to Calgary and worked as a telephone operator for AGT. It’s there she fell in love with a quirky and handsome Scotsman named Colin to share 53 years of marriage.
Their life together bloomed with children Jason (Leslie) Risk, Amy (Garth) Tansey; grandchildren Connor, Kayleigh, Ada and Alex. Her family was her soul and her greatest joy in life was spending time with the grandkids.
Many can attest to her endless hospitality, a seat in her dining room would lead to laughs, stories and a very full belly. Speaking of laughs, Janet’s laugh was a trademark we will all miss dearly. Walking into her home was always met with open arms and a deep embracing hug. Over the years Janet and Colin enjoyed collecting antiques, celebrating ways of generations past and living a simple but meaningful life. Settling into Barons and life on the prairies Janet enjoyed her time with the curling club and Royal Canadian Legion. It’s also this settling onto the farm that Janet “settled” with Colin’s never ending ventures with animals. The love she had for Colin endured through his collection of donkeys, goats, pigs and countless chickens.
Evenings were often spent with the methodic clacking of her knitting needles, pouring love into every stitch. An avid reader, her afternoons were spent reading countless books. Her hours of hobbies set in a well-worn armchair were usually interrupted as Colin decided to change the channel abruptly, or even worse settle on Fox News! If you were privileged enough to witness this event it was always good for a laugh and a story to tell later. May the love she wove into her generations of family and friends never be forgotten.
Along with her children and grandchildren Janet leaves behind her siblings: Donna (Peter), Bob (Doris), Neil, Ron, Jay (Nancy), brother-in-law: Ian (Marge); numerous nieces & nephews, cousins and many, many close friends and neighbors. Janet joins her heavenly family: husband Colin; parents George and Marie; brothers: Jim and Fred; sister Susan; many extended family and her pets: Muggins, Winnie, Sammy, Maggie and Oscar.
Janet’s wishes were to be laid to rest with her husband Colin in Elinor Cemetery near Barons in the spring. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Fosters Garden Chapel.
