Our beloved Jeanette Hansen passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2012 at the age of 94. Jeanette was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on December 2nd 1917 and lived most of her life in the Vulcan area before retiring from farm life there to Calgary in 1968. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2002, after enjoying a loving marriage of 64 years and is survived by her four children, David (Brenda) Marilyn (Mike), Donald (Mardelle) and Darlene (Jeff), as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She enjoyed the simple life and was not afraid to speak her mind clearly. Quietly, but with insight, she would see a need. Then, with simplicity, directness & determination, Jeanette would take action to make things right, whether for family, friends or community. With one friend, she organized and maintained the Ensign Sunday School and for many years was active with the Ensign Ladies Aide, the United Church Women’s Organization and Choirs, in both Vulcan and Calgary, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star.
In her retirement Jeanette and Harold traveled extensively. She often mentioned how much she loved dipping her toes in the ocean and picking seashells on the beaches of Hawaii.
For over seventy years, she used her considerable needlecraft skills to help others, first during WW II, knitting socks & gloves for servicemen and finally, crocheting knee-shawls for the elderly. All who knew her will miss her nurturing spirit.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at South Calgary Funeral Centre, corner of MacLeod Trail South and Lake Fraser Gate, Calgary, on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
