Shona was born in Wick, Scotland and raised in Glasgow. She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a B.Sc. in Pharmacy in 1961.
She met and married her former husband Iain Le May, and moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1963. They established roots in Saskatoon and remained in Canada aside from a sabbatical year in Brazil. After enrolling their three daughters in the Saskatoon French School, Shona furthered her studies in French to help the girls with their schooling. She ultimately obtained a B.A. in French and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan and embarked on a teaching career. She worked as a French and classroom teacher with the Saskatoon Catholic School Board, which she found to be very rewarding. Shona was very active with St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), the Saskatoon Bridge Club and the Saskatoon Lions Speed Skating Club. She was a prolific reader, a knitter, an excellent cook, and a recreational golfer. She loved tending to her flower garden.
In 2013, she moved to Calgary to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. Mum was very proud of all her children, their partners, and her grandkids, and loved spending time with them. Mum always approached life with a smile and glass-half-full attitude and enjoyed welcoming people into her home.
She will be missed dearly by her daughters Fiona Keenan (Kevin), Ailsa Le May (Margit) and Catriona Le May Doan and her grandchildren Ryan, Emma and Megan Keenan, Odin and Shona Le May, and Greta and Easton Doan.
The family would like to thank Heather Bailey, Dr. Connie Ellis, and the team from Cochrane Home Care for their care and support.
At Mum’s request, there will be no formal Celebration of Life.
